images hosted by Photobucket

Postby Steve » Fri Jul 14, 2017 7:31 am

Hello,

Photobucket.com has recently changed its terms of service for free users on their platform. As of June 20 images hosted by Photobucket and shared on our forum, or any other third party sites, will no longer appear. As a result, you may notice a higher amount of broken images on the forum.

If you do not have access to edit your older posts please contact an Administrator or Moderator for assistance. Please provide the new URL for the image that needs to be edited and a link to the thread the image is located in.

More information on the change and what it means for Photobucket users can be found below.

Thank you

Yeah. That's a really poorly conceived moved by Photobucket that is affecting zillions of forums and users. It makes me worry about which service will try this stunt next. Any recommendations for another service? Does this software support Dropbox?

A shame the forum can't host pics...

tinypic.com works.

I will look at other hosting sites this weekend (googledrive, dropbox etc) and see what we can come up with.

For the forum to host the images, I am not entirely sure, but cost may be be a speed hump for that to occur. I'll let Thommo respond to that.

I'd be more than happy to link my pics to my Dropbox account if it was possible. At least I have control over it and not have to put up with bloody advertisements every five seconds!

Don't be too surprised if it happens to tinypic too. They are owned by photobucket (or vice versa).

and the links are already beginning to show as 'broken'

Okay...if you want to retrieve images you have hosted at Photobucket...you better be quick.

1. Go to https://secure.photobucket.com/login and login to your account.

2. Next to your avatar/username on the left hand side, select "View Library"

3. At the next screen go to the menu on the right hand side of the screen. 3 menu headings "Share this album", "Actions" and "Description". In the area under "Actions", select "download album".

Now, I did have issues doing this in Google Chrome, so I resorted to Mozilla Firefox.

4. The software will go thru various checks to ensure you are a human, and it will then download a zipped file, which appears to contain all the images you have loaded into your photobucket account.

Only one small problem......the filenames have a small encryption/coded name now. You will have to go thru and re-title them (if necessary), but, at the very least, you have the photos that were in your photobucket account.

Hope this helps everyone.

When considering what online photo/image hosting services to use as an alternative.....this survey seems quite informative.

Bear in mind that Photobucket is not a worthy contender at this time. Tinypic is worth considering, as it does not provide you with a storage capacity limit. Simply, it uploads your selected image, and gives you a hosted link in return. Tinypic is in cahoots with Photobucket, so draw your own conclusions with that.

if you use Google Chrome there is a solution (just don't know how long it will last).

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions?hl=en

Click the link https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions?hl=en and search/choose to add the extension "Photobucket Hotlink Fix" to Chrome.
Then, you want to go to the Extensions main page. It's located in the top right corner menu button, the one that is 3 dots. Or, you can try this link: chrome://extensions/

Find the one you just added (it's icon is the shape of a puzzle piece) and check the box that says "Allow Access to File URLs"

Clear cookies in cache, load up a page with a photobucket link, and see if it worked.

I've included screenshots to highlight the steps I've done:
