I guess I'm in the povo pack as I'm looking for tent accomodation or $20 per night pub accomodation unless we can get a few non smokers together for a room.

Phew,

I've managed to get booked for the course. $900 all up. 5 Hotels, 4 Motels, 2 on-site vans and a YHA. 12 nights!

I stuffed up my booking for Ocean Grove and got a place in Sorrento. As it works out, its the other side of the ditch and requires a ferry journey. There is a ferry at 7:00am which takes me across but it takes an hour. Now, I need some reassurance about how the riding actually happens as I'm a bit of a cry baby and don't want to get left behind. Will you guys wait for me until I can rejoin the herd?

I am also wondering how we manage to get all the riders pointed in the same direction. Is there one big line that takes an hour to get through traffic lights or do we break up into smaller bunches?

Any light that the Yoda riders would like to shed on the situation would be most appreciated.

thanks
Jim

I would expect that there will be many smaller groups, as opposed to one large conga line.

Previous assaults have proven that like minded/skilled/paced riders do generally ride together. When the group does split, there is always an acknowledged "meeting point" at some location down the road. but fear not, we don't leave riders to fend for themselves.

I'm sure there will be a "Tail End Charlie" in operation.

From previous experience....the group will meet somewhere in the mornings at a pre-arranged time, folks will wait if they know you are on the way, no-one gets left behind.

I would expect we'll have a chat in the mornings to make sure everyone knows which way they are going, where to stop for smoko, places to stop and see etc. It's probably best if we stay together as a group at the beginning of the day to get through town and onto the start of the days route. During the days ride you travel at whatever pace suits you, i'm sure there will be others who ride like you do and it becomes obvious, pretty quickly, who they are.

This assault is a small group so it'll be easy to keep everyone informed on the go :)

No one gets left behind.....
Never..
Well almost never ...
Maybe...
Occasionaly..
Actually it's happened before...
Quite a bit really....
Best be early ....
Just to be sure... :?

Seriously folks, we are as flexible as we need to be on a day to day basis to make this a trip to remember for everyone.

In past assaults we've had people staying at various venues at the end of day locale and we've usually had a 0900 kick off as the "norm" and we always have that start point identified with everyone before we part company for the night.

Generally we telegraph where we're all having breakfast but it's ultimately your own choice as long as we're all ready to roll at the designated startpoint.

If you're not going to make that start point by 0900 - ring someone - me - 0488551189- we'll organise something - we're a tight knit group and you are not going to be - left out - left behind - left wondering - or any other left....

We start an assault together and we finish together........always.

We all have different situations, our bike setups, different ages , two up, one up, scratchers, slow tourers, new to bike touring, returnees after having families etc. but the commonality is riding and enjoying each other's company and seeing what this country has to offer and that depends, pretty much, on staying as a group.

We all know where we start the day and where we're stopping for the night so even if you don't stay with the group all day you know those waypoints are set in concrete and if you don't turn up; someone will come looking for you.

See you all soon.
